MAKE IT OR BREAK IT
With the fights that we want to avoid out of the way in the last write up, it is now time to turn our attention to those fights that will make or break your bets. This especially pertains to DFS lineups, as you will not be able to make a decent lineup without incorporating some of the fighters in this breakdown.
This article focuses on the fights that are expected to be highly competitive. In many of these fights the outcome could easily go either way. Below we will play out our ideas and predict exactly which direction each contest will take.
HOW SHOULD YOU USE THIS INFORMATION?
You have a few options on how to use this information. The main two ways you can use it are to agree and pick with us, or to disagree and pick opposite us. The main focus for use with these fights is to decide which fighters we want to mix into our locks, which will be covered on Friday, to form a complete DFS lineup or parlay.
The last option we will offer is probably the best, you can enjoy the content but ignore the advice. Again, we are fairly early into the process of learning UFC betting, and it is probably a good idea to assume we know nothing.
HENRY CEJUDO vs DOMINICK CRUZ
Our Pick: Dominick Cruz (Reluctantly)
This is possibly the closest fight to call on the entire card in our opinion. In fact, it almost made our plague list as a fight to avoid. There are many things to consider here. Let’s start with Cejudo, the current champion.
Cejudo has been very hot, and has been that hot against world class opponents. Cejudo is a capable striker and elite when the fight goes to wrestling or grappling. It would be very easy to pick Cejudo if he was fighting almost anyone other than Dominick Cruz.
Cruz has long held a position of one of the best fighters in the lower weight divisions. Unfortunately, he has been on a break from fighting since 2018 following a shoulder injury he sustained while training for a January 2019 fight. That is a long time to be out of the octagon, and sure we could expect some level of rust from this great fighter.
The silver lining here is that this fight is a championship fight in the bantamweight division. This means there is a solid chance for five rounds of high output from both fighters. If we can manage to pick four winners, this contest might be worth taking both fighters as our fifth and sixth on a DFS lineup for double up contests.
ANTHONY PETTIS vs. DONALD CERRONE
Our Pick: Donald Cerrone
Here we have another matchup that is going to be really hard to predict beyond a shadow of a doubt. On one side we see one of the more exciting fighters in Pettis, but one that has been lukewarm throughout his entire career. Unfortunately Pettis just couldn’t seem to claw his way back to the top of the division and may have peaked a bit too early.
On the other side of the cage is Donald Cerrone, the hardest working man in the UFC. While he does fight more than anyone, and is more than willing to fight anyone, Cerrone has bounced around the top of the division for what feels like forever. Cerrone may be a higher class of fighter than Pettis. The other side of that is that Pettis is younger with less miles, and may be able to out work him.
It should be noted that this will be the second fight between the two, and Pettis did win the first meeting. That fight was seven years ago however, and came at a time where Pettis was one of the hottest fighters in the UFC. Either way it should be an exciting fight, but we would say the edge definitively belongs to Cerrone despite the previous outcome.
LOCKS INBOUND!
With all of the questionable fights out of the way, on Friday we will be covering the four fights that we will use to decide our win percentage for the event. Our locks for the fight card. We will be using those locks on our plays, but as stated before, you will need to mix in some of these fights to form a complete DFS lineup.
