NFC PLAYOFF PREVIEW

This time our attention turns to the NFC playoff picture based on our predictions from earlier articles. If you missed any of those predictions please check them out below. The NFC has been a mess for the last several years, consistently losing to the AFC team in five of the last six Superbowl matchups. The only win coming from a Nick Foles led Eagles team.

Before we get into the games themselves we need to predict the seeding. This is how we expect the seeding in the NFC to shape up.

#1) New Orleans Saints (First Round Bye)

#2) San Francisco 49ers

#3) Dallas Cowboys

#4) Chicago Bears

#5) Green Bay Packers

#6) Washington Redskins

#7) Arizona Cardinals

WILDCARD ROUND PREDICTIONS

SAN FRANCISCO 49ers vs. ARIZONA CARDINALS

This will be a walk in the park for a very solid 49ers team. The Cardinals will come into this game resting their hopes and dreams on the shoulders of Kyler Murray. The 49ers defense will most likely put a quick end to that, forcing Murray to make faster decisions than normal, which will show his inexperience by forcing turnovers.

We expect this game to be over just about as quickly as it began. 49ers easily march to the next round of the playoffs to lock into a somewhat more challenging game.

WINNER: San Francisco 49ers

DALLAS COWBOYS vs. WASHINGTON REDSKINS

The Cowboys always manage to disappoint fans in some way each season. This season that let down is sure to happen in the playoffs at some point. It is however doubtful that it comes at the hands of the division rival Washington Redskins. The Skins are just too early in their rise at this point, and while making the playoffs was a win for them, their success likely ends there.

We expect the Cowboys to roll over the Redskins easily, as the Redskins usually zero blitz the hell out of the Cowboys to keep them in struggle mode. That tactic will not work great with the all-star cast of receivers the Cowboys now possess.

WINNER: Dallas Cowboys

CHICAGO BEARS vs. GREEN BAY PACKERS

Here we take a look at another divisional rivalry matchup. The Bears finally have a serviceable game manager to run the offense and it has provided them with a solid playoff run. They get matched up against the division superpower, the Green Bay Packers here. The Packers are slipping under new coaching and an aging quarterback, but still field an amazing defense and are capable of performing at a high level.

We expect this game to be close, but ultimately have to go with the Chicago Bears being able to edge the Packers. This more of a gut instinct prediction than it is based on any particular facts or circumstances.

WINNER: Chicago Bears

DIVISIONAL ROUND PREDICTIONS

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS vs. CHICAGO BEARS

To this point, the way we have the bracket shaping up would have the Bears heading to New Orleans to play the Saints. The Saints come into this game as a heavy favorite, with one of the best passing offenses in the NFL, and a defense to match. The Bears are likely a bit outclassed here, only really having the strong defense. We expect the Bears offense to struggle against such a solid defense.

Our prediction here is a simple New Orleans all the way. They have had the best team in the NFC for about three seasons, this season might just be their year.

WINNER: New Orleans Saints

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS vs. DALLAS COWBOYS

Remember earlier when we said that the Cowboys will manage to let their fans down at some point? This is that point. The 49ers run game is so powerful and stopping the run has been a chore for the Cowboys for many years. That may have changed under the new coaching staff and personnel, but until we see it, they can’t stop the Niners rushing attack.

The 49ers will cruise to an easy win here utilizing the old school formula of solid defense and ball control. The real question mark for this team will be how good they can be when they have to throw.

WINNER: San Francisco 49ers

CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS vs. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

The Saints head into the NFC conference championship game against the San Francisco 49ers per our predictions. This is a clear matchup of the two best teams in the conference. The Saints have a high powered passing attack with a guaranteed chain mover by throwing to Michael Thomas. The 49ers have the best run game led by Mostert and Coleman with some fierce blocking from their tight ends and lead blocker.

Our prediction here is that the Saints finally get the job done without being hindered by a fluke play. Drew Brees will get one shot to win one more ring prior to retirement. This prediction will give a Kansas City vs New Orleans Superbowl matchup.

WINNER: New Orleans Saints

WHAT ARE YOUR NFC PLAYOFF EXPECTATIONS?

Who do you think will be coming out of the NFC conference to make a Superbowl appearance in 2021? Could the 49ers possibly be back to the big dance? Could the Cowboys finally measure up to what they appear to be on paper? There are lots of questions in the NFC and we would love to hear your thoughts.
