The 2020 NBA draft is lining up to be one of the most promising drafts in recent years. It’s still a mystery who will go Number 1 to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Top Prospects
Lamelo Ball-the 6-6 point guard we have been watching ever since he was a kid. Ever since leaving Chino Hills High School, Ball has turned into a pass-first PG, like his brother Lonzo. Ball has elite play-making ability and score at ease, especially since he is taller than the average point guard. NBA Comparison: Penny Hardaway
James Wiseman-the 7’1 center from Memphis University, who famously withdrew from the NCAA after being suspended. Wiseman is an elite defender with insane athleticism for a 7-footer. Wiseman reportedly has not spoken to the Timberwolves, who hold the number 1 pick, so I see him going to the Warriors at 2. Wiseman’s most elite ability is his rim-protecting, whoever lands him will have a major improvement on defense. NBA Comparison: Anthony Davis
Anthony Edwards-looked at as the player with the most upside in this draft. Edwards looks like to be a perfect fit for the Timberwolves offense, with KAT at center and D’angelo Russell fresh at point guard. Edwards can create a shot off the dribble and an explosive jump. NBA Comparison: Andrew Wiggins.
Obi Toppin-former zero-star recruit out of OSU. The only downside of Toppin is his age, he is 22 years old, which will probably make him the oldest out of the lottery picks. Toppin is a vertical threat, who can shoot from downtown. For a big, Toppin is an elite passer who can create plays on his own. As a result, Toppin will fit in well with the Chicago Bulls, a team already filled with young talent. NBA Comparison: Tobias Harris
Deni Avidija –Avidija already has professional success overseas, at Maccabi Tel Aviv. Avidija isn’t your typical European player. He is a defensive stopper, who racks up rebounds, with a good mid-range jumper. The only weakness we would give Avidija is his athleticism. NBA Comparison: Hedo Turkoglu
Tyrese Haliburton-Haliburton has elite ball-handling and can create his own shot at any time. He can be the perfect partner for Trae Young with the hawks, who need a shooting guard. Just like Ball, Haliburton is tall for a point guard, which helps his vision to see passing lanes. NBA Comparison: Lonzo Ball
Final Draft Predictions:
- Timberwolves-Anthony Edwards
- Warriors-James Wiseman
- Hornets-Lamelo Ball
- Bulls-Obi Toppin
- Cavaliers-Deni Avidija
- Hawks-Tyrese Haliburton
