AFC PLAYOFF PREVIEW

Now that we have predicted what we believe will happen in each of the individual divisions, it is time to take a look at how we expect the playoff seeding to go. With a history of dominance for quite some time in the NFL, the AFC is usually the more exciting conference to watch during the playoffs.

So let’s tackle seeding before anything, as it will be the basis for how the results shape up.

#1) Kansas City Chiefs (First Round Bye)

#2) Baltimore Ravens

#3) New England Patriots

#4) Tennessee Titans

#5) Miami Dolphins

#6) Indianapolis Colts

#7) Pittsburgh Steelers

WILDCARD ROUND PREDICTIONS

BALTIMORE RAVENS vs. PITTSBURGH STEELERS

Picking the Raven’s opponent was a difficult decision. It came down to deciding between the Steeler and the Chargers for the seventh seed, and last spot in the playoffs. Ultimately we decided on the Steelers because there is a chance that Herbert plays for the Chargers and that will destroy their season. On top of that, the Steelers being matched against the Ravens is just timeless.

This game will be highly competitive as the Steelers don’t know how to play football any other way come playoff time. In fact, against any other first round opponent we easily could have had them making a run. Against the Ravens however, they will make an early exit in our opinion. Baltimore wins a close one.

WINNER: Baltimore Ravens

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS vs. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

This matchup would be so much more intriguing a couple years ago. Andrew Luck going against Tom Brady sounds so much more appealing than Stidham competing against Phillip Rivers’ AARP card. This is what we have

This matchup could go either way. We are going to give the advantage to great coaching and culture however, and predict a win for the New England Patriots.

WINNER: New England Patriots

TENNESSEE TITANS vs. MIAMI DOLPHINS

This contest would be very exciting to see considering the recent success of the Titans and the new revamped roster Miami will be fielding this season. The outcome of this game will largely depend on how well Miami can stop the running game of the Titans, and which quarterback is running the offense at this point in Miami.

We are going to guess that Ryan Fitzpatrick is still running the show in Miami and uses his veteran status to do what needs to be done to secure Miami the win over a tough Titans team.

WINNER: Miami Dolphins

DIVISIONAL ROUND PREDICTIONS

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS vs. MIAMI DOLPHINS

With the results we predicted above, we would end up with the Dolphins heading into Kansas City for a showdown that just seems odd for this era of NFL football. The most interesting part of this matchup would be that you end up with the offense that will most likely be the best passing offense in the NFL going against the highest paid cornerback pairing in the league.

This game would depend on how well the Chiefs avoid the one issue that plagues them as a team, and that is getting down big early in games. If they get down big against Miami, we don’t think they can storm back with the secondary Miami has. Ultimately however, we don’t really have faith in the Miami offense to generate enough points to put the Chiefs in that position.

WINNER: Kansas City Chiefs

BALTIMORE RAVENS vs. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

This matchup is a familiar one from the last decade or two in the NFL. The Ravens have one of the best running offenses in the NFL, and bring in a fairly solid young defense as well. The Patriots on the other hand would come into this matchup looking like a shell of their former selves and mostly relying on great coaching to get them a win.

At the end of this one, we predict this is where the surprise results of the Patriots without Brady come to an end. The Ravens would win this matchup in our opinion and win it big.

WINNER: Baltimore Ravens

CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS vs. BALTIMORE RAVENS

In a repeat of last year’s conference championship, we predict seeing the Ravens going against the Chiefs. This is the most flashy offense going against the most gritty. This outcome of this matchup would depend on how many long sustained drives the Ravens can put together. Keeping the Kansas City offense off of the field will be the most important thing.

We believe that the Ravens will be able to get the job done this year with Lamar Jackson having more experience and likely an even more amazing player than he was last season. The Chiefs fall short in the defense department and we can’t see them stopping a powerful Ravens ground game.

WINNER: Baltimore Ravens

WHAT ARE YOUR AFC PLAYOFF EXPECTATIONS?

Who do you think will be coming out of the AFC conference to make a Superbowl appearance in 2021? With so many great young franchises in the mix and plenty of changes across the league, it is sure to be an exciting season! The only thing that would make it better would be the fans in the stands, but let’s just be happy we have football.
